¡Hola!. He estado bastante ocupado durante esta primavera en Madison, Wisconsin, el corazón del Midwest. Esta noche estoy empacando para mi primer viaje a la Reunión Anual de la Asociación Americana de Museos (AAM), que inicia  hoy sábado su 106 versión en Minneapolis, Minesotta. La AAM es la mayor organización gremial y principal actor de la industria del museo de Estados Unidos, y creo que el encuentro será de interés de todo aquel relacionado con las industrias culturales.

¿Qué es lo que me lleva a 106 Reunión de la AAM? Bueno, este año colaboro en un proyecto muy interesante: “Los Museos y su público. Evaluación y análisis de la comunicación y gestión de las audiencias museísticas en Chile, 2012-2014”. Una extensa investigación Fondecyt sobre usos de audiencias que encabeza, entre otros, Cristian Antoine quien fuera mi profesor de Fundamentos del periodismo en la Usach. La idea es aprovechar la instancia para tomar contacto con las ideas y tendencias en el campo del Museum Work y Communication Museum. También voy a estar despachando crónicas de las jornadas, y manteniendo mi twitter @jorgezeballos en función de la Reunión. Debo agradecer a Dewey Blanton,  Director, Strategic Communication de la AAM por su gestión.

El programa de Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo es simplemente apabullante. El detalle se puede descargar aquí: Programa106 – AAM2012 y repito lo que narran los asistentes anteriores: lo que entusiasma es la calidad de la conversación que tiene lugar en sesiones, pasillos y stands de la Exposición. Y también, las inevitables cervezas y hamburguesas locales, para luego “tipín” 9:00 pm, darse a la esperada fiesta de inauguración en el Minneapolis Institute of the Arts. El concepto yankee es claro, coincidir con algunas personas realmente maravillosas, adalides en pasión e ingenio para la industria del museo, y durante los cuatro días de la conferencia cruzar ideas, provocar otras nuevas y darse a trabajar en hacerlas germinar.

Con esto en mente, si hablas español (o no), ven a buscarme en la conferencia para que podamos charlar o sigue la Reunión a través de #AAM2012. Cuéntame tus esperanzas para el futuro de la disciplina. Dime por qué has venido a Minneapolis, que es lo que esperas encontrar en la Reunión y lo que podemos hacer cuando estemos de vuelta en nuestros países. Será una semana ocupada, pues el viernes parto a Nueva York para asistir la Conferencia Internacional “Jews and the Left” que organiza el legendario YIVO (Yidisher Visnshaftlekher Institut) y co-presentada por la American Jewish Historical Society (pueden ver el programa, aquí).
